Spectacular forest sunset

Remembering

The Beaver Supermoon, the largest, brightest moon of the year, shone in all its glory in the areas lucky enough to have a clear sky on Wednesday, including ours at least briefly and then again in stunning clarity last night. It's worth a click for photos from across the globe too - some of these are truly spectacular!

November is a month for remembering. It begins with the Catholic observances of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day which remember the saints and the faithful departed. Some areas hold ceremonies to bless the graves of loved ones, and many churches hold special services to remember those who have died. In the New Forest, the Oakhaven Hospice 'Light up a Life' services take place in December, but today is the final chance to submit a dedication for the programme (see more below).

This Sunday there will be services across the country for Remembrance Day:

  • In Lymington's St Thomas Church the Service of Remembrance with outside audio broadcast is at 10.00, followed at 10.55 by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial.
  • New Milton's Annual Act of Remembrance starts with the Parade setting off at 10.30 from Crossmead Avenue Car Park, then after the 2 minutes silence and wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial it will set off to the Memorial Hall, where the Service of Remembrance will take place at 11.30/11.40 am.

The A&T has prepared a useful round-up of Remembrance Sunday events in other New Forest towns and villages: click here.

And on Tuesday, the eleventh day of the eleventh month, there will be more services and other acts of remembrance on Remembrance Day itself. My cousin's brave and handsome Royal Marine son was killed in Afghanistan on 12 November 2008; November is always a particularly poignant month of remembrance for her.

November is Bereaved Siblings Month, honouring those who have lost a brother or sister. And my own family and friends will be remembering my wonderful husband, on his November birthday.

OK enough of all this! But just to remind you too, about tomorrow's Sing Fauré’s Requiem for Remembrance at Beaulieu Abbey Church: it should be wonderful!

A reminder too, how beautiful these services are, and that there are more of them this year, in new venues too:

Menopause Health Education Event

A Great Opportunity to Learn About the Menopause

Times have changed since menopausal issues were kept to oneself, nowadays there is so much more empathy for this challenging period in the lives of so many women, and so much more help and information available. And at The Arches Physiotherapy there is a great opportunity coming up to learn about the physical, emotional, and social impact of menopause, at their Menopause Health Education Event on  Friday 28 November. Whether you are experiencing the menopause yourself, supporting a loved one, or simply keen to learn more, you are warmly invited to join this session - and that includes the men!

Other News & Events

  • 'Allo Allo!' Unusually, this year's silly celebration for Beaujolais Nouveau at the Turfcutters Arms - on 'Beaujolais Nouveau Thursday', 20 November - is not yet fully booked, so here's your chance to join in! Plus lots of other goings on at the Turfs to bring you cheer throughout November.
  • Also bringing to your attention the St Barbe Charity Online Art Auction which opens tomorrow and runs until 23 November. This features an outstanding selection of paintings, prints and mixed media works generously donated by leading contemporary artists and collectors. Funds raised will go directly to support St Barbe’s nationally recognised exhibition programme and its award-winning outreach work, which brings art, heritage and creativity to people of all ages and backgrounds across the New Forest and beyond.
  • A reminder about next Friday's Lymington Society talk at the Community Centre: Grace Darling and the Fine Art of Saving Lives at Sea.
  • A number of Christmas events added this week to the Events Calendar have been included in the Diary below: fayres, holiday activities, wining and dining occasions...see if you can spot them!

And Finally...

And finally a big thank you from me this week to two brilliant Lymington businesses:

  • Kevin at Ear Clinic for restoring the hearing in my gammy ear with an easily arranged pre-paid appointment for micro-suction: it's blissful to have full hearing again, why didn't I do something about this earlier! Strongly recommended sooner rather than later, if you have any doubt about whether you might have some wax build-up in an ear!
  • Cheryl at The Arches Physiotherapy for putting my mind at rest about my gammy knee, giving me some simple exercises to do at home, and setting me on the path to resuming long distance hiking long into the future!

I will remember them both!

Best wishes Jane
