Our Yesterdays and Todays

There have been so many evocative reminders this week about the wartime generation's service and sacrifice for our freedoms. Yesterday's beautiful VE Day service in Westminster Abbey was a poignant tribute; the evening concert at Horse Guards Parade highlighted the relief of all that war in Europe was finally over.

With war in Europe very much a feature of today, the charity New Forest for Ukraine continues as it has for the last 3 years to provide much needed humanitarian support. Every fortnight it sends around 9 tonnes of aid to Ukraine. Its proof-of-handover systems allow it to track aid ensuring donations get to the people who need them most, including individuals and families sheltering near the conflict zones. NFFU is always grateful for both financial and physical donations; most needed items are long-life tinned and dried foods, baby formula and products, first aid and hygiene and sanitary items. There are drop off locations across the New Forest; the Lymington Aid Hub is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays 12.30 to 15.30 and Tuesday, Wednesday Saturday 09.30 to 12.30 at 310 Ampress Lane, Lymington, SO41 8JX. If you have questions about other items which might be welcomed or would like to make a financial donation, find more information here.

Across the forest as more enchanting foals appear daily to delight us, from next Monday the stallions will be released for 6 weeks to do their annual job of ensuring we can enjoy this treat again next year! If you'd like to know more about this year's stallions and the areas where they'll be released, click here. And do take care, especially those first few days when not only they but the mares too will be very lively!

Sunday is the RNLI Lymington Lifeboat 10k Run with Children's Events too - always a very special occasion, especially in the fine weather which looks promising for this weekend. Here's wishing good luck to all runners and a wonderful day for all involved. Also to mention: Lymington's Loz Walters has now completed his epic cycling circumnavigation of the entire continent of Australia and in so doing has not only set a new fastest time on 2 wheels but also done it on a fixed gear track bike. It's superhuman! If you'd like to pay tribute with a donation to the RNLI here's a link to his Just Giving page!

A special mention for Sunday's Conservation Awareness Day at the Countryside Education Trust's Home Farm in Beaulieu, part a series of events celebrating 50 years of the CET. Conservation Awareness Day was created as a way of spreading the important message of what people can do to help preserve wildlife and the vital habitats found in the New Forest. Over 30 local conservation organisations will have stalls; visitors can learn about conservation grazing and sustainable farming, attend a variety of short talks and of course meet the animals. This is the first major public event to be held at Home Farm since the pandemic closed it down, so do go along if you can!

As usual do scroll through the Diary below for a myriad of other upcoming events, and check the full Events Calendar too - lots of new events have been added this week.

Best wishes Jane

A GROWING FAMILY

Scott Bailey LLP is delighted to welcome Sarah French to its growing Family Law team in Lymington. An experienced solicitor, accredited mediator, and collaborative lawyer, Sarah joins well-known family lawyers Sarah Unsworth and Ann Herd in Scott Bailey's Lymington office. Sarah has a particular focus on helping clients resolve financial and child matters in a way that reduces conflict and puts the long-term well-being of any children at the centre of the process. She works with clients to find the most appropriate way forward, whether that’s mediation, negotiation, or a collaborative approach, always with a view to avoiding court where possible.

Sarah’s appointment reflects Scott Bailey’s continuing investment and belief in non-court dispute resolution and expands the team’s capacity for family mediation, a valuable and often more constructive alternative to traditional litigation for separating couples who want to work things out with less acrimony and more flexibility. Click here to read more...
